Australian women’s team skipper Meg Lanning has now become the captain to win the most ICC trophies all round the World. Australia,s win in the final of the T20 World Cup against South Africa was her fifth ICC title win as captain. Lanning accomplished this milestone during her side’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final against South Africa on Sunday.
Meg Lanning has now won five ICC titles as skipper which includes the 2022 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup and 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023 editions of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. In the process, she surpassed Ricky Ponting (4) and MS Dhoni (3) in an elite list. Ponting had won four ICC titles as captain while MS Dhoni had three. Both are still being counted among the top international captains.

Talking about Ponting’s ICC titles he won the 2003 and 2007 ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy titles in 2006 and 2009. MS Dhoni won the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 CT as captain. He is also the only skipper to win all three major ICC titles as captain.

Overall, it was Australia’s 21st major ICC title win. The women’s team has won seven 50-over World Cup titles in 1978, 1982, 1988, 1997, 2005, 2013, and 2022. It was also the sixth time that the Australian women’s team won the T20 World Cup title. 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023. This makes it 13 title wins in women’s cricket.
Talking about the Australian men’s team they have won five 50-over World Cup titles in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. They won two ICC Champions Trophy titles in 2006 and 2009 and one T20 World Cup title back in 2021 making a total of 21 titles overall including men’s and women’s cricket.
