Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has said that he is ready to take up coaching the IPL if presented with an opportunity.

Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India head coach came to an end last week with India’s group-stage exit at the T20 World Cup in the UAE. Under the former all-rounder, India registered twin Test series wins in Australia and have a 2-1 lead in the unfinished England series, however, Virat Kohli’s side failed to clinch any ICC title.

Ravi Shastri now has eyes on an IPL coaching stint, as well as a return to the commentary box. He stated that he would relish the new challenge of mentoring an IPL side.

“If I get the opportunity, I will definitely do it. There are no two ways about that. It will be a great experience. Something I have not tried and I relish challenges. I will go in that direction, for sure,” Ravi Shastri told NDTV in an interview.

Ahmedabad franchise owners approach Ravi Shastri for IPL 2022: Reports

It has been reported by Cricbuzz that CVC Capitals, the owners of the Ahmedabad franchise, had approached Ravi Shastri for a coaching role from IPL 2022 when the 59-year-old was in Dubai with Team India.

Not only Ravi Shastri, but the CVC Capitals also wish to rope in bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar into their contingent ahead of the mega auction. The trio didn’t confirm anything then as they were busy with the national side.

Also, should Ravi Shastri take up the role in an IPL franchise, this would give rise to a conflict for his potential return to the commentary box.

“Association with an IPL team may prevent him from earning a direct commentary contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) because of the Conflict of Interest rules but he would try to sign up with the broadcaster directly, like VVS Laxman who has managed to do commentary while also being involved with an IPL franchise (as a mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad),” the Cricbuzz report said.

“It is learnt that Shastri already has a few offers from some top broadcasters in the world, Star Sports and Sony Sports included.”

CVC Capitals brought the Ahmedabad franchise for INR 5600 crore last month, and are eager to finalize the backroom staff as soon as possible with an eye on the retentions to be finalized.
