Champion Indian seamer Mohammed Shami has said that should Virat Kohli’s men win the upcoming World Test Championship final against New Zealand later this month, then he will dedicate the win to the frontline workers- police officials, doctors- who have worked selflessly to serve people during the pandemic.

The Indian Cricket Team will soon board the flight for the much-awaited tour of England where it will lock horns with New Zealand in the summit clash of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final.

After the historic rubber, Team India will have a six-week break before they square-off against Joe Root’s England in a grueling five-match rubber.

“When we play for the country, it doesn’t matter what the outcome is but we try to give our hundred percent. We put country first. Be it the batsmen or bowlers, we have been working as a unit over the last years. And I hope, we can continue the same work and the winning spree in the WTC final,” Mohammed Shami told India News

”As far as the England series is concerned, may we return victorious and I’ll dedicate the win to our soldiers, police officials, and doctors who have served selflessly during the pandemic,” he added.

The New Zealand Cricket Team has been in England for around 10 days now and by the time the World Test Championship final rolls around, they would have played a couple of Test matches against the home side.

While Mohammed Shami admitted that New Zealand will have an advantage as they have arrived early in the UK, he believes that none of the teams will have any home advantage in the WTC final.

Shami further added that both India and New Zealand are quality teams and the side that commits the minimum number of mistakes in the final will ultimately win the championship.

“Definitely they will have the advantage as they have arrived early and will play a couple of Test matches against the hosts. But I feel, when two teams enter finals, they reach that point after showcasing their abilities. None of the teams will have the home advantage and I hope our playing XI must commit the least errors. Both India and New Zealand are top-class teams and neither of them would let go any chance. So, it’s important to utilize your time and skills precisely, ” said Mohammed Shami.

Shami is hoping that the bowling unit continues its good work in the upcoming summer. He signed off by saying that the entire team is high on confidence following back-to-back series wins against Australia and England last winter.

”Hope, the bowling unit performs well. We have beaten Australia in Australia and then England at home. The boys are high on confidence and I hope, they continue the same in England,” said Shami.
