In Pakistan, Your People Cannot Stand Your Success- Ahmed Shehzad Accuses Teammates Of Planning His Ouster From Pakistan Team

Out of favor Pakistani opener, Ahmed Shehzad made some stunning revelations as to how his own teammates created a negative impression of him and planned his ouster from the Men in Green. Shehzad last played a T20I for Pakistan in 2019 and an ODI and Test in 2017.

the 30-year-old has now revealed that there were more factors to him not being a consistent starter for Pakistan. He claimed that some of his teammates back then wanted him out of the team along with middle-order batsman Umar Akmal.

Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Ahmed Shehzad made some bold claims and said:

“Some of my teammates tried to associate my name with Umar Akmal by planning to give negative impression regarding me. This was a pre-planned approach and they wanted to kill two birds with one stone. I will not say their name but I will not make this public. It started from within the team.”

He gave example of Virat Kohli flourishing under the captaincy of MS Dhoni and said that in Pakistan senior players cannot digest the success of another star.

“I have said this before, and I will say it again, Kohli’s career picked off amazingly because he found MS Dhoni but unfortunately, here in Pakistan, your people cannot stand your success. Our senior players and ex-cricketers cannot digest seeing someone succeed in the cricketing world, which is unfortunate for Pakistan cricket,” he added.

Shehzad had made his Pakistan debut in 2009 and thus far has played 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 59 T20I matches.

Shehzad was tipped by many to reach lofty heights. However, injuries and a poor run of form meant that he was in and out of the squad. The opening batter last played for the national side in 2019. The 30-year-old opened up on his departure from the Test and ODI team in 2016 and pinned the blame on Younis.

Younis, then Pakistan coach, has submitted a report where he remarked that Umar Akmal and Shehzad should play domestic cricket to get their spot back in the national team setup. The opening batter was unhappy with these comments and said such discussions should be held face-to-face.

“I have not seen the report myself, but a PCB official told me that these remarks have been said regarding me. But I believe that these things should be discussed face-to-face, and I am ready to take on that challenge. Then we will see who is right and who is wrong. Their words hurt my career, especially since I was not allowed to present my case. This was a pre-planned approach, and they wanted to kill two birds with one stone,” said Shehzad.
