Former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy chastised the VCA for watering the Nagpur stadium fields.

The Vidarbha Cricket Association’s decision not to allow Australia to practice after losing by innings and 132 runs to India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Saturday last week was described as ‘awful.’

The focus has been on the Australian batsmen since the Australian side lost the opening Test of the four-match Test series by innings and 132 runs. None of the Australian batsmen were able to surpass the fifty-run threshold in either inning. While there was discussion about curators watering specific sections of the field prior to the first Test match, the Australian squad did not participate in any tour games in India.

The Australian management had intended to practice after the defeat. The Australian team management, according to news.com.au, had asked for the post-match watering of the fields to be postponed so they could have a practice session.

Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy criticized the VCA for watering the fields:

Ian Healy, a former Australian wicketkeeper, criticized the VCA officials for watering the stadium’s surfaces. A member of the VCA ground staff was allegedly caught watering down the stadium’s pitches, which led to the termination of Australian players’ practice sessions following the team’s humiliating loss on Saturday.

“It’s really embarrassing the scuppering of our plans to get some practice sessions on that Nagpur wicket. That’s not good, that’s just not good for cricket. The ICC needs to step in here. For them to water the wicket unceremoniously when it was requested for practice is horrible and that has to improve,” Healy said while speaking on SEN Radio on Monday morning.

The second Test between Australia and India will begin on Friday in Delhi as the visitors try to recover from innings- and 132-run thrashing in the series’ opening match in Nagpur.
