The former Pakistan batsman Salman Butt opined from his experience that India should look into two spinners for the Lord’s Test as the pitch has traditionally assisted spin. India and England are set to face each other at the Lord’s in the second test and all eyes will be on the playing XI as India dropped their premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for the first Test.

They went in with the combination of one spinner and four seamers and it paid really well. However, the lord’s pitch is slightly different from the Trent Bridge one and hence India could alter their bowling combination. India has the options of Ishant Sharma, Ashwin, and Umesh Yadav on the bench who can do the job if needed.

Salman Butt Expects Uneven Bounce On Day One

Salman Butt opined that India could use the option of getting in Ashwin if they want to play two spinners at Lord’s and he noted the uneven bounce on day one in the Lord’s pitch. He added the quality Indian fast bowlers could come into play in the pitch as they have got some deadly bouncers too.

“We are hearing that Shardul Thakur is unfit. But even otherwise, if India want to play two spinners at Lord’s, they can bring in Ravichandran Ashwin. There is a lot of uneven bounce at Lord’s on the last day. When the bounce is uneven, even the fast bowlers come into play. India have Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, who bowls very good bouncers as well,” Salman Butt told on his Youtube Channel.

Salman Butt Feels Spinners Can Have A Say At Lords

Salman Butt mentioned that the combination of two spinners and three seamers could be ideal for India at the Lord’s with Shardul Thakur facing injury concerns. He reckoned the history of the ground suggests that the spinner could be effective and recalled when Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah picked up 10 wickets at the ground.

“I haven’t seen the pitch. But from my experience of matches at Lord’s, two spinners and three pacers will be India’s best combination. Traditionally, spinners have got quite a few wickets at Lord’s. Yasir Shah had taken 10 when we won a Test here. So I definitely feel two spinners can play. But if India think they are comfortable with four pacers, they have the option to go with Ishant Sharma,” added Salman Butt.

Ravindra Jadeja has batted really well in the chances he has got and it will be tough to leave out him for Ravichandran Ashwin.
