The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has the hosting rights for the Asia Cup 2023, but the tournament is likely to be played at a neutral venue. However, the tournament will be moved out of Pakistan, and the final decision will be made in the next month. Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad reacted strongly and urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to intervene.

Earlier, the BCCI secretary and the ACC president, Jay Shah made an announcement that Indian players will not travel to Pakistan for the continental tournament and that the Asia Cup 2023 will be held at a neutral venue. Then PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup 2023 if the Indian cricket team did not go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in September.

The Asia Cup will be played in the ODI format, which is scheduled to take place in September, ahead of the ODI World Cup in India in October.

Speaking to the reporters in Pakistan, Javed Miandad said that if India does not want to come to Pakistan, there is no problem for the country, but as a governing body, the ICC should ensure that Asian giants come.

“I have said this before as well, India can go to hell if they don’t want to come to Pakistan. It doesn’t bother us. It is ICC’s job to ensure that India comes. If ICC can’t control it then what’s the use of being a governing body. It should have the same rules for every team, if they don’t fulfil commitments, however, strong they may be. India doesn’t run cricket. It may be a powerhouse but in its home, not for us, and not for the world. Come play in Pakistan, why don’t you play?,” said Miandad

India last travelled to Pakistan for the 50-over Asia Cup in 2008, where they lost the final to Sri Lanka in Karachi. Pakistan played the white-ball series played in India in 2012-2013, which is the last bilateral series between the neighbouring countries. Pakistan travelled to the 2016 T20 World Cup, the last ICC competition hosted by India.
