Former Indian player Mohammad Kaif appreciated Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in a humorous manner after India sealed the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with an unassailable 2-0 lead on Saturday.

India won by seven wickets as they chased 184 in 17.1 overs as Ravindra Jadeja (45*) and Shreyas Iyer (74*) starred with the bat for the hosts. Jadeja came in to bat at No.5 at the start of the 14th over when India needed 58 runs to chase 184.

Jadeja relived the pressure of Shreyas Iyer, who was batting at 64 from 36 balls at that point. The left-handed batter leaned forward and found the gap to push the ball over the extra cover region boundary on his first ball against Chamika Karunaratne.

Jadeja smashed 21 runs to Dushmantha Chameera in the 16th over, his batting exploits included three boundaries and a six that was a dropped catch, a tough one though, by Charith Asalanka near the ropes. Jadeja hammered 45 off 18 including seven fours and a six at a staggering strike rate of 250.

The all-rounder’s quickfire knock helped India chase the target with 2.5 overs left and eventually seal the T20I series 2-0 with one game left. Jadeja said he would continue to play according to the situation and help India win matches with his dexterity with the bat.

Every move by Rohit Sharma is a masterstroke: Mohammad Kaif

Since Rohit took over the white-ball captaincy from Virat Kohli after the T20 World Cup in 2021, India won their third T20I series in a row. Rohit has also tried to explore the bench strength of the Indian team by giving every player the opportunity to push their case for the T20 World Cup 2022 in October-November.

Kaif said whatever the Indian captain touches will turn into gold and termed his every move as a masterstroke.

“Be careful to shake hands with Rohit Sharma these days. Anything he touches turns to gold. Shreyas at No.3, rotation of players, bowling changed. Every move, a master stroke. #Goldentouch,” Kaif tweeted.

The final T20I between India and Sri Lanka will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
