Ishan Kishan’s impressive batting performance in the first two ODIs has impressed his coach Rahul Dravid. Though India lost the second ODI, Kishan’s contribution with the bat stood out in what was otherwise a sorry Indian batting performance.

Kishan and Shubman Gill (34) added 90 runs for the first wicket. Once the partnership was broken, India lost their last nine wickets in 90-odd runs. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav (24), Sanju Samson (9), Axar Patel (1), and Shardul Thakur (16) failed to take the opportunity presented to them.

Kishan scored his third fifty on the tro including his second-innings knock in his debut Test. In the process, he equaled MS Dhoni’s record and surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s incredible feat. Kishan’s form has been a big plus in this ODI series for India so far.

Ishan Kishan Has Done Well: Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid spoke about Ishan Kishan’s batting performance in the second ODI. He said how he made the most of the opportunity presented to him.

“I think Ishan has done well. This is his third fifty in a row, counting Test one as well. Again he is someone who is taking the opportunity when he is given the chance. I think that’s all we asked from a young player. We want to give them as many chances as we possibly can. We can’t give everyone a chance all the time; there are other talented guys as well. We try our best to give them as many chances as possible” said Dravid on Kishan.

He further spoke about the management’s decision to rest senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The move backfired as India were bowled out for just 181. The batting performance also highlighted India’s over-dependence on the two batters.

“Today, to give people chances, Rohit and Virat sat out, and we may have to take those risks because if you are looking at the big tournaments, then we need to build to some other players, we need to get some answers for specific positions, considering some of the situations we are in” Dravid pointed out.

The decider will be played in Trinidad on August 1. Both teams then play a five-match T20I series to round off the tour.
