Anil Kumble Heaps Praises On Rohit Sharma For Test Ton Against West Indies
Former India spinner and head coach Anil Kumble was impressed with Rohit Sharma’s knock in the match. While speaking on Jio Cinema, Kumble said Sharma knew he had to play a different kind of innings from the ball one.
“You saw from ball 1, the moment he stepped out, he knew he had to play a different kind of an innings, it was not the kind of pitch where the ball was coming onto the bat. Rohit likes the pace, even when the fast bowlers bowled those short deliveries, it was not coming on. He was happy to stay restrained and then, yes, on a couple of occasions, he took on the bowlers and hit them over the top,” Kumble said.
Calling Sharma’s innings wonderful, Anil Kumble also reckoned that the Indian skipper never looked out of form this year.
“Yes, wonderful innings, much-needed for Rohit because it was not that he was out of form. Even in the WTC, he was looking really good, yes, he got out but he was looking good.
Even in the IPL, he was looking good every time he went out there. You could make out that when someone is not in form, and he was never like that. I am glad that he could put his head down and get the hundred,” Kumble further added.
Rohit Sharma was highly criticized for his poor batting show in IPL 2023 during April-May, where he got out for single digits in many games. However, his international record in 2023 has been decent so far. For instance, the right-handed batter also slammed a century against Australia during 1st Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February 2023.
Meanwhile, India crushed West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in 1st Test. India piled up 421-5 (d) in the 1st innings. They bowled out the home side for 150 and 130 in both innings to grab a comfortable victory. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who stormed 171 runs for India on his debut, won the Player of the Match award.
