India and England will take on each other in the third of the five-match Test series at Headingley Cricket Ground, starting from 25th August 2021. The first Test between the two sides resulted in a draw after rain played spoilsport on the final day of the Test match. The second Test saw the visitors winning the game by 151 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma gave India an outstanding start in the first innings of the second Test. Rohit Sharma played a gem of a knock but fell short of 17 runs in scoring a century. KL Rahul, though, did reach the three-figure mark and etched his name on the Lord’s honors board. The visitors notched 364 runs in the first innings. The second innings saw another stellar knock from Joe Root.
The English skipper stepped up when the chips were down. He scored 180 runs off 321 balls and stayed unbeaten till the very end. His knock propelled England to score 391 runs in the second innings and thereby took a 27-run lead.
Mark Wood went through the visiting top order and left them reeling at 55 for 3. However, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara then put on a 100-run stand to lead India’s recovery. England, however, still had the upper hand at the first session of day 5.
After picking 8 wickets for 210 runs, England looked to wrap up the innings. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami had other plans. The duo added 89 runs for the ninth wicket to extend the lead past the 270-run mark.
The visiting bowlers came out all guns blazing during England’s second innings and bundled them out for just 120 runs. The visitors would be brimming with confidence ahead of the third as they would be looking to continue the winning momentum.
