England opener, Rory Burns is wary of the threat Jasprit Bumrah offers as both are likely to collide in the impending 4-match Test series in India commencing on 5th February. The first half of the series will be played in Chennai and the next couple of Tests in the newly built Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.

During a virtual press conference, Rory Burns admitted that Bumrah is a tough bowler to prepare for and play against as the Indian pacer combines an unorthodox action – coming at an angle instead of a more traditional fast bowler action – with his impeccable accuracy of line and length.

While Bumrah will play his maiden Test on the home soil, Rory Burns has seen him achieve success in overseason conditions, the latest in Australia. The left-hander opines that India are in great form having won the series Down Under despite several major players missing.

As quoted by ANI, Rory Burns said, “Bumrah is quite a hard man to prepare for, isn’t he? He is obviously unique in terms of how he comes and bowls. It would just be about working those angles. I saw the recent series between India and Australia and they are in a pretty handy form, not necessarily their first playing XI at different points, but still, they managed to get over the line, it is just going to be a big challenge in their own conditions, looking forward to it.”

Joe Root is a leader by example: Rory Burns

England themselves are coming off a 2-0 clean sweep over Sri Lanka as Rory Burns lauds Joe Root as a batsman and captain. Burns, who opted out of the Sri Lanka series owing to the birth of his child, says that Root leads the team from the front and sets an example in the batting department. The English skipper was in magnificent touch against Sri Lanka – 426 runs at an average of 106.50.

“Root obviously leads from the front, you have seen that in the Test series against Sri Lanka, it was incredible to see him go about his business. He is a leader by example, in terms of how he captains the team, he is an easy bloke to follow,” Burns added.

Rory Burns himself would be hoping to gain some form. In his previous Test series, the opener managed only 20 runs in 4 innings against Pakistan. The opener, who starred in the Ashes for England, last scored a Test ton in November 2019.
