England all-rounder, Sam Curran has been rested from the third Test match of the ongoing Test series against India. The third Test, which is a Day-Night affair to be played with the pink-ball, is slated for February 24th at the newly-built 110,000-seater Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Sam Curran, along with Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood, was scheduled to fly to India on Friday to begin his 6-day mandatory quarantine period. However, his arrival for the Test series has been delayed by a week in order to avoid any bio-bubble fatigue.
The southpaw is given another week’s rest after playing a lot of cricket in the recent months, and considering the busy schedule ahead with the Indian Premier League (IPL), several Test matches, and the T20 World Cup. He will be available for selection for the fourth and last Test of the series also to be played in Ahmedabad from March 4.
“Sam’s been given a few extra days to recharge his batteries after a lot of cricket and time in a behind-closed-doors environment,” an England spokesman told Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old has had a busy last season – since cricket resumed in the pandemic era, Curran played in the home season for England, then for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2020 followed by tours of South Africa and Sri Lanka. Hence, Curran, along with Bairstow and Wood were rested from the first two Test against India. The youngster is given another week’s rest – India won’t mind that as Curran was the one who was largely responsible for their 4-1 series loss in England in 2018.
Sam Curran selected for the 5 T20Is against India
Sam Curran is named in the 16-man squad to take on India in the 5 T20Is which will follow the Test series. All 5 matches will also be played in Ahmedabad starting March 12. Sam along with his brother Tom Curran is an integral part of England’s T20I team as both offers significant contribution with the ball and with late-order batting.
England has also recalled up Liam Livingstone for the T20I series after impressive performances in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers – Livingstone last played for the Three Lions in 2017. Wicket-keeper opener, Jos Buttler will return to the side for the T20Is after being rested for the last three Tests.
