This was one of the rare games that India had lost when the match had gone intense and the Men in Green survived under pressure. Pakistan won the toss and put India into bat in which India lost two early wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. India ended up losing wickets at regular intervals and could muster just 245 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs quota. Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, and Ravindra Jadeja all scored half-centuries to contribute to the total.

Pakistan in reply started off the chase well and despite wickets falling around, Mohammad Hafeez studied the ship with an excellent 75 off 117 deliveries. He did get support from Sohaib Maqsood while Shahid Afridi played a quickfire cameo in the end that sealed the victory for Pakistan.
