Former Indian cricketer Reetinder Sodhi mentioned that Ishan Kishan’s fearless innings were a testimony of how youngsters have wanted to go about their business in international cricket. Ishan Kishan and Prithvi Shaw were very aggressive from the start of their innings and they took a complete onslaught on the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Ishan Kishan hit a six off his first ball on his ODI debut and he went on to make a quickfire half-century when the game was already in the hands of India. However, it was all about the intent shown by these youngsters not having the nerves of playing international cricket for India.

Reetinder Sodhi Feels IPL Is A Reason For The Youngsters’ Approach

Sodhi mentioned that the youngsters’ approach nowadays is huge and is new to international cricket. He noted that fearlessness has been a trademark of the way they have been winning matches for their franchises in IPL. He added that the youngsters have been delighted to take the element of risk and that has been the evolvement of the current era.

“It is a very big thing. This is positive intent. Such fearlessness was never there before. Now, these youngsters want to take the attack to the opposition but it is necessary to know when to do that.”

“If you are hitting a six off the first ball in your debut match when it is not required also, you are taking an element of risk. But they want to take risks and I feel IPL is a huge reason for this because they are match-winners of their respective franchises,” Reetinder Sodhi told.

It Is A Make-Or-Break Fight – Reetinder Sodhi

Sodhi also told about the approach could have cost his wicket and Ishan would have been criticized a lot and he was thankful that it did not happen that way. He referred to it as a make-or-break fight and mentioned the olden days when chances aren’t frequent enough to take risks.

“If it had not gone for a six and he had got out, we would have been criticizing him and not appreciating his heroics. Here it is a make-or-break fight. He hit a six – great, positive but if not – stupidity, naivety.”

“If the player is ready to take that risk, then fine, he can play such shots. These days you get chances but in the earlier days if you played one rash shot, your career used to be over,” he added.
