Former England cricketer Andrew Strauss lauded team India’s performance in the 2nd Test at Lord’s, saying that the Indian team deserved to win the match. Former England skipper Strauss also mentioned that England‘s top order needs to be evaluated and Dom Sibley should be replaced in the upcoming matches.

The Joe Root-led England team were in a dominant position on Day 4 of the Test, pushing India to just 181-6 at the stumps. However, later on, on Day 5, they failed to bowl out the Indian tailenders Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah who smacked an 89-run stand to change the scenario of the game in India’s favour.

India Were Exceptional In Lord’s Test, Says Andrew Strauss

While speaking about the match to Sky Sports, Andrew Strauss lauded team India for their amazing show in the 2nd Test at Lord’s while also calling the encounter a feisty one.

“It was feisty. Every series with India, and particularly (Virat) Kohli, is feisty and as the match was on the line you expected nothing else. It has been five brilliant days of Test cricket.

“India were exceptional and there were times when England looked like they were going to get out of jail but, in the end, you have to say that India deserved it, they did enough to win. England are going to be absolutely battered and bruised as a result of that”, Andrew Strauss said.

Andrew Strauss was totally unimpressed with England’s top-order, saying that it needs to be replaced in the upcoming games. While chasing the 272-run target, England openers Dom Sibley and Rory Burns were gone for a duck, which put huge pressure on the next batsmen.

“I think it might be time to bring Sibley out of the firing line. He has looked out of touch. I think Ollie Pope is probably going to come back in, who has been in and around the squad, but is it right for him to be batting in the top three? It is not an easy solution.

“There are a lot of problems for England, no doubt about that. If they had got away with it again, we might have been able to paper over the cracks but not anymore,” Strauss further said.
