The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has said that the Indian team performed exceptionally well in the 2019 World Cup but one bad day in the tournament wiped away the entire 2 months of hard work of the team.

In the ICC ODI World Cup 2019, Virat Kohli-led India were having a sensational run before they were knocked out of the tournament by New Zealand in the semi-final.

In the match India managed to restrict New Zealand at the score of 239 but while chasing the target KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored 1 run each, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni contributed good runs for the team but India eventually lost the match by 18 runs.

“To be honest, in the 2017 Champions Trophy and 2019 World Cup, India was good. But, we were exceptional in the 2019 World Cup, one bad day, and our entire hard work of two months was wiped away.”

India entered the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 as favourites to win the championship but lost two consecutive games of the tournament and were eventually knocked out. The BCCI President was disappointed with India’s performance and said:

“I was disappointed with the way we played in the T20 WC 2021. It was the poorest we played in the past 4-5 years.”

Ganguly added that India played with only 15% ability in the games against Pakistan and New Zealand in which they faced a humiliating defeat. He asserted:

“I don’t know what happened, and I felt we didn’t play with enough freedom. Sometimes, you just get stuck. The way we played against Pakistan and New Zealand, I felt we played with only 15 per cent of the ability. Hopefully, we learn from it.”
