The latest entrant in the Indian Women squad, the 23-year-old wicketkeeper Indrani Roy, is looking forward to making the most of the tips that she has received from the legendary MS Dhoni if she gets an opportunity to play during the upcoming tour of England.

Indrani Roy, who hails from Liluah in West Bengal’s Howrah district, moved to Jharkhand a few years ago following which she has been a regular part of the state team.

It is during the assignments with his state team that Indrani Roy came in contact with his idol and fellow Jharkhand cricketer,  MS Dhoni.

Roy, during an interview with Sportstar, revealed that she met MS Dhoni during a training session in Ranchi last year where she had a long conversation with the latter on what she can do to improve her game.

MS Dhoni had advised the young stumper to work on her reflexes and she is looking forward to make the most of the tips as she embarks on the tout of England.

“During a training session in Ranchi sometime last year, I had a long conversation with Mahi Sir about how to improve my game and he had told me that I should ensure that I improve my reflexes and movement in the five-metre radius. For wicketkeepers, that’s a key thing and he advised me that I should try and get better. That actually helped me,” Indrani Roy told Sportstar.

“Learning a thing or two from a legend like Mahi Sir is a privilege and his advise actually helped me improve my game. Every time I hit the ground, I try to remember his tips,” the 23-year-old said.

Indrani Roy finished as the leading run-scorer in the Senior One-day Competition as she amassed a total of 456 runs. Her parents were initially reluctant about her forging a career in cricket but the 23-year-old was able to pursue her dreams thanks to her coach Panchu Gopal Majhi. Indrani still doesn’t have a passport but as gets ready for her first assignment, she is hoping to make the most of whatever opportunities she gets this summer.
