Former Pakistani cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has said that India’s youngsters have played a big role for India in Tests in the last couple of years. The former Pakistan skipper also said that players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja have taken up the major weight of the Indian batting line-up in Tests.

KL Rahul came to the limelight with a century at Lord’s in the ongoing India vs England 2nd Test. Rishabh Pant was responsible for India’s Test-series victory against Australia earlier this year. With his unbeaten 89 runs in the series-decider 4th Test, he took India to victory while chasing 327 runs.

Later, he also smashed a century in the Test series against England at home. Ravindra Jadeja smashed a half-century in India vs England 1st Test in Nottingham, helping the team to take a 95-run lead in the match.

Major Weight Of The Indian Batting Line-Up Has Been Shouldered By Youngsters: Inzamam-ul-Haq

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Inzamam-ul-Haq praised Indian youngsters for their contribution to the team in the last 2 years. He attributed the credit to youngsters for India’s overseas triumph in Tests.

“The major weight of the Indian batting line-up has been shouldered by the youngsters during the last couple of years. KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and even Ravindra Jadeja has scored runs in the middle-order whenever the situation arose.

“They have taken on the responsibility of the Indian batting. The Indian victories overseas have to be attributed to the contribution from these youngsters,” Inzamam-ul-Haq said.

While speaking about India’s experienced Test trio of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane, Inzamam-ul-Haq pointed out that they have not performed well in the last 18-20 months.

“During the 18-20 months from 2019 to 2021, the three main players of India have not performed. Pujara hasn’t scored a ton during these 20 months. Ajinkya Rahane has not performed well. He hasn’t even averaged 20 during 2021.

“There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is a great player. People consider him as the no.1 player. Even he doesn’t have a century in this period. When even these players start to perform, this team would become even stronger,” Inzamam-ul-Haq further said.

Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli, who forms the regular middle-order of India in Tests, only share 1 century among them since 2020, which was hit by Rahane against Australia last year. In 2020, Virat Kohli held an average of just 19.33 in Tests and 27.10 in 2021 so far.

Pujara accounts for an average of 27.78 in 2021 while owned an average of 20.37 in 2020. Rahane batted at an average of 38.85 in 2020 but only has a batting average of 19.21 since the start of this year.
