After facing their worst performance last season in IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings released 6 players out of their squad ahead of IPL 2021 auction. The MS Dhoni-led franchise parted ways with Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Monu Singh, and Shane Watson. During IPL 2021 auction, Chennai Super Kings spent Rs. 17.35 crore to buy 6 players into their squad.
CSK spent Rs. 9.25 crore to induct Krishnappa Gowtham into their squad. The Indian all-rounder became the costliest Indian player in the history of Indian Premier League auctions. CSK also bought English all-rounder Moeen Ali for Rs. 7 crores. Respecting Cheteshwar Pujara’s contribution to the national team, CSK also gave him an IPL contract at his base price of Rs. 50 lakh. Moreover, all-rounder K Bhagat Varma, batsman C Nari Nishaanth and bowler M Harisankar Reddy also found a place in the CSK squad during IPL 2021 auction at Rs. 50 lakh each.
Post the auction, Chennai Super Kings have 25 players in their squad. Chennai Super Kings have won the IPL trophy three times in 2010, 2011 and 2018. After a poor season last year- finishing on the 7th spot on the points table- Chennai Super Kings will aim to bounce back in IPL 2021. There will be few CSK players who will play every match in the IPL 2021 tournament, as their inclusion surges the strength of the team on the field. Here are 5 players from Chennai Super Kings who will play every match in IPL 2021.
MS Dhoni has become the face of Chennai Super Kings. The legendary wicket-keeper batsman has led the franchise since the very first year in 2008 and has also led the team since the start. MS Dhoni is a talented wicket-keeper and smart skipper. He is one of the quickest wicket-keepers behind the stumps. Plus, he is also an advantage at the lower-middle order slot with his ability to hit long shots.
MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket last year and IPL is the only big platform where he can showcase his skills. Like the previous editions, the 39-year-old cricketer will again lead Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021 and he will be one player who will be part of every game.
Like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina is another player who has been associated with Chennai Super Kings since the IPL 2008 season. Suresh Raina was the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League ahead of IPL 2020. The left-handed batsman Raina did not feature in IPL 2020, due to which Virat Kohli surpassed him as the leading run-scorer in IPL. With 5368 runs in 193 IPL games, Suresh Raina is the second-most run-scorer in the tournament.
Raina’s exit from last season cost CSK a big price. The team’s batting department failed on a large scale in IPL 2020. Although few players like Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson tried their best in the batting zone, Suresh Raina’s absence came as a big blow to the team. With Raina’s comeback in IPL 2021, CSK will have a stronger batting line-up this time and Raina will be one player who will be part of playing 11 in every game.
Since his addition to Chennai Super Kings in 2018, Ambati Rayudu has become a bankable batsman for the franchisee. The right-handed batsman has become a backbone for the middle-order. Ambati Rayudu has the ability to play under pressure.
Last season, he was the second-most run-getter for Chennai Super Kings after Faf du Plessis. After the ouster of Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu’s presence in the team has become more crucial. Hence, Rayudu will be another player who will play every match for CSK in IPL 2021.
Whether it is an international or domestic stage, Ravindra Jadeja is a popular Indian player to look out for. With his hard-hitting batting style and spin bowling, Jadeja becomes a bonus player in any team.
His addition to the team provides a trustworthy secondary bowler in the match. Last season, he played all the 14 games for CSK and this time too, he is highly expected to be part of every match of Chennai Super Kings.
Along with Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo was another player whose absence in IPL 2020 heavily hampered CSK’s performance in the tournament. Bravo was ruled out of the tournament due to a groin injury and could only play 6 games for Chennai Super Kings. After West Indies all-rounder’s ouster, Chennai Super Kings lost a dependable death-over bowler and a brilliant lower-order batsman.
This time, Bravo is expected to give his 100 per cent in the tournament and he will be one overseas player whom CSK will not drop in any of the games.
