Indian Batsman Manoj Tiwary has revealed the reasons behind Indian Captain Virat Kohli not being able to win an IPL yet for the Royal Challengers Bangalore side. Virat Kohli has been part of the RCB team from the inaugural edition and was appointed the captain of the side in 2011 after being retained before the mega auction in 2012. Kohli and Devilliers have been the mainstay of the RCB batting for years now.

Kohli captained RCB to the final in 2016 which was the best season for Kohli as a captain and as a batsman. He scored a hefty of runs and broke the record of the highest run-getter in a single season of IPL with more than 900 runs to his name. But Kohli’s main worries has been inexperienced bowling and the in the very boundaries at Bangalore, it becomes a nightmare for inconsistent bowlers.

To Build A Good Team, You Have To Have A Good Combination – Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary had revealed the reasons behind the failures of Kohli as RCB captain that he was affected by the poor performance of overseas players and also some poor strategy in the auction. He stressed on the importance of Devilliers wicket-keeping which opens up another slot for an overseas batsman to play in the side. RCB have not been afraid to spend in the auction but it hasn’t paid dividends for them yet.

“There are lots of reasons for it (Virat Kohli not winning IPL). His record with the Indian cricket team is far better than his record with RCB as a captain. To build a good team, you have to have a good combination.”

“Until and unless AB de Villiers keeps for the whole tournament, you will not be able to play another overseas player in your team. We did not see AB keep in the first six or seven games. But eventually, they had to do it,” said Manoj Tiwary.

Josh Philippe Was A Big Letdown – Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary mentioned Australian youngster Josh Phillipe and senior batsman Aaron Finch not coming to their groove in the tournament last year and they proved to be a big factor for RCB not making it to playoffs despite having a good season. Chris Morris had to sit out for half of the tournament and it did not help RCB’s cause.

“Josh Philippe was a big letdown (last season). They thought he would come and do the job for them at the top of the batting line-up. Unfortunately, he could not contribute. When your overseas players cannot contribute, then your team is in trouble. Chris Morris was also injured in the first half of the tournament,” noted Manoj Tiwary.

“Virat Kohli had made a statement that after so many years, they had a balanced side this year (IPL 2020). Unfortunately… Aaron Finch was disappointing as well. These are the main factors (for RCB struggling),” Tiwary added.
