Former Indian wicket-keeper Saba Karim said that Rishabh Pant is enjoying his captaincy role for the IPL team Delhi Capitals.
After Shreyas Iyer injured his shoulder ahead of IPL 2021 in April, the Delhi Capitals team management appointed Pant as their captain for this season.
National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru cleared Iyer to play in the second phase of IPL 2021 in UAE. Iyer’s return questioned whether Pant will continue as the skipper of Capitals or not.

However, the team management cleared the row by giving Pant the captaincy for the remaining season and Iyer would focus on his batting.
Under Pant’s captaincy, Delhi Capitals have won six out of eight matches so far and currently sit on the top of the points table.
Karim feels that Pant is a very talented batsman, who can finish games and is making the best of his leadership role.
“He’s still young. I feel he’s enjoying the added responsibility of captaincy. He’ll reap its benefits with his batting as well in the future. Rishabh Pant is such a player and is so talented, that he can finish matches,” Karim said on Khelneeti YouTube channel.
“And that’s the role Delhi Capitals have entrusted on him. He’s expected to not only finish matches but also plays an important role while setting the target while batting first,” he added.
Rishabh Pant is still an unfinished product in T20s: Saba Karim
Pant scored 213 runs at the strike rate of 131.48 from eight games and has notched up a couple of fifties for Delhi Capitals in the first half of IPl 2021.
Karim thinks that the wicketkeeper-batsman is an unfinished product in T20 cricket and he needs to be careful in his shot selection.
“That shouldn’t happen (whether his strike rate will be low in the UAE). I am not a part of the coaching staff so I expect Rishabh Pant to perform well not only as a wicketkeeper but also as a batsman,” Karim mentioned.
“From what I saw in the first half, I liked his attitude a lot. He enjoys the game whether it’s batting or keeping. When we talked, I told him, ‘The way you play with India and enjoy the game, you’ll have to do the same in the IPL.
“I feel Rishabh Pant is still an unfinished product in T20s. He’ll have to work harder on his shot selection and playing according to the situation, only then he’ll be a complete player,” he added.
Delhi Capitals will resume their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second leg of IPl 2021 on September 22.
