Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has been impressed by Chennai Super Kings’ remarkable turnaround in IPL 2021. Chennai Super Kings finished on the second spot this year until the tournament’s suspension, registering five wins from seven matches. Scott Styris attributed the franchise’s success to their captain MS Dhoni and his smart changes.

Chennai Super Kings endured a forgettable campaign last year in the UAE as they finished the season in the second-last spot. The yellow army did not reach the playoffs for the first time and managed only six out of 14 games and struggled majorly with their batting performance. But the management still retained MS Dhoni, who was nowhere near his best in IPL 2020, as their skipper and he has repaid the faith.

Scott Styris said that he was incredibly impressed by MS Dhoni’s leadership on and off the field and for changing their tactics from last year, knowing it would not work this time. Hence, the keeper-batsman made some smart and significant changes, with Styris remarking the Super Kings as tactically the best in the competition.

“I was incredibly impressed by the leadership shown by MS Dhoni, as much for what they did off the field as he did on the field. He knew if they tried to repeat what happened last year, it wouldn’t have worked. So they made changes, so incredibly smart and I think they [CSK] continue tactically to be the best in the competition,” Styris said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

The cricketer-turned-commentator also hailed Deepak Chahar and Sam Curran for their effectiveness with the new ball and their ability to swing it. The 45-year old underlined that Curran was outstanding with both the new ball and death, while Chahar dismantled the opposition with the new ball.

“You pick up wickets early, it is a different ball game. They can really squeeze you and strangle you through those middle overs in particular. Sam Curran has a role to play in that with his ability to swing the ball in that one direction, Deepak Chahar on the other. I think they form a really good partnership together,” he added.
