Zimbabwe won the first T20 international and took the early lead. However, Ireland then made a great comeback as they won the second T20 international by 7 wickets.
Zimbabwe bowled well to win the first match by 3 runs. Batting first, they posted 117 in the first innings. Chakabva was the star performer with the bat, scoring 47 runs off 28 balls. He hit four fours and 1 six during his innings. The other batsmen, however, returned with low scores.
Ireland exhibited a great bowling performance as most of the bowlers were among the wickets. Craig Young and Simi Singh accounted for two wickets apiece, while Barry McCarthy and Getkate claimed one wicket apiece.
Zimbabwe bowled their hearts out in the second innings and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Paul Sterling got out in the sixth over as Ireland’s first wicket. Wickets kept falling from there on and in the end, they fell short of three runs.
Simi Singh remained unbeaten at 28 off 22 balls but he couldn’t win the game for the side. For Zimbabwe, Masakadza and Luke Jongwe picked two wickets each. Ryan Burl picked 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs.
Ireland, however, came back strongly in the second match. The bowlers, though, didn’t bowl as well as they bowled in the first game. Zimbabwe scored 152 runs in the first after batting first. Shuma scored 46 off 27 balls, while Ryan Burl amassed 37 off 33 balls. Getkate was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland, picking 3 for 20 in 4 overs.
The senior batsmen from Ireland, Kevin O Brien, and Paul Sterling stood up to the task and played crucial knocks in an important game. Kevin O’ Brien scored 60 runs off 41 balls, while Sterling amassed 37 runs off 29 balls.
The duo laid the platform for the run-chase. The other batsmen in the middle order made crucial contributions. George Dockrell ensured he stayed unbeaten on 33 off 29 balls to guide the team to a 7 wicket win in the end.
