Isa Guha Backs Wicketkeeper Alex Carey To Lead Australia In Tests

Former England fast bowler Isa Guha has backed the wicketkeeper Alex Carey to replace Tim Paine as Australia’s new Test captain since Carey has got the respect of the dressing room. Tim Paine is under scrutiny again after losing the home series 1-2 against an Inexperienced Indian team. This is the second time Paine has lost a home series against India with the first one coming in 2018 and the latest one will be a tough one to digest for Australia based on the circumstances.

India was humiliated in the hands of Australia in the first test at Adelaide after being bundled out for 36 but India ensured it did not get into their heads and won the famous boxing day test at Melbourne and drew the series 1-1. With a hard-fought draw in the third test at Sydney, India went into the Gabba with all four possible results. But they were positive always and chased down 328 in the final innings to win the series 2-1 under stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane.

Isa Guha Claims Carey’s Got The Determination And Competitiveness

Isa Guha praised Alex Carey for his kindness, gentleness, determination, and competitiveness that takes to be the captain of Australia. She told an important point about Carey having the respect of the dressing room which is instrumental in bringing the best out of the team. She added that Carey’s game is really good in the subcontinent pitches and he can score runs quickly too while he is the next best keeper if not the best.

“I think he’s someone that has the respect of the dressing room, one of the nicest blokes in cricket, seems gentle and kind on the exterior but underneath that there’s definitely a determination and competitiveness that’s really suited to being and Australian cricketer and being an Australian captain as well.” Isa Guha said on the Fox Cricket podcast.

Brad Haddin reckons he’s the next best keeper, he’s got the ability to score runs and the all-round game to be able to play on the subcontinent on fast pitches that do a bit and he’s got a cool, calm head and the respect of the dressing room,” she added.

Isa Guha Points Out Tim Paine’s Captaincy Flaws

Isa Guha pointed out the flaws in Tim Paine’s captaincy where he failed to intimidate the Indian batsman Pujara and Rahane with short balls and left it too late to get them settled in the crease. She also added that the way you manage the bowlers is a key factor in winning a tight series.

“You look back to India’s first innings at the Gabba, (Cheteshwar) Pujara and (Ajinkya) Rahane barely had a short ball bowled to them until they were in,” she said.“That’s where Tim Paine as a captain has to go to the bowler and say ‘Look I want you to intimidate these guys, they’re playing their first Test match’.

Isa Guha had certainly made it clear that unless Paine produces a good Ashes series, he will be under the rader to be replaced soon.
