India’s latest batting sensation Ishan Kishan made a scintillating start to his international cricket career. He hit a boundary on his first ball on his T20I debut against England and then a six on the first ball he faced on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka. His ability to go after the bowlers and slam tall sixes also made fans remind of a young MS Dhoni.

In fact, Ishan Kishan and MS Dhoni have a lot in common as they both represent Jharkhand in India domestic cricket and are wicketkeeper-batsmen. Dhoni has led India to all the three ICC trophy victories and even the no.1 rank in Tests as well. Ishan captained India in the 2016 U19 World Cup and led the team to the finals.

Dhoni, who retired from international cricket last year, has already achieved the ‘legendary’ status while Kishan is just getting started. Kishan however has interacted with Dhoni on numerous occasions and Dhoni was even seen giving him tips during the IPL 2021. Not only this, Kishan also shared one skill set that he wishes to learn from Dhoni.

In a recent interaction with Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel, Kishan shed light on his bond with Dhoni. He also talked about the one thing he wants to learn from the veteran wicketkeeper-batter.

“There are very few players who can give that much to their countries… We have all seen how he has batted from No.3 to No.6 but never complained and performed wherever he went. That’s something I want to do for the team to – just go out and perform wherever I get an opportunity,” Ishan told Aakash Chopra.

Kishan further revealed that Dhoni has given him several tips about wicket-keeping.

“Whenever I talk to him it’s generally about wicketkeeping or when we meet during the IPL, I share with him whatever I am feeling at that moment. For example, I’ll tell him, ‘Bhaiya, I am not able to perform after 1 good game’ and he’ll say, ‘It might be the case that your hunger goes down after one performance and you are not focusing enough,” the 23-year-old said.

Both MS Dhoni and Ishan Kishan will clash in the first match on resumption of IPL 2021 in UAE when Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings face-off on September 19.
