Following India‘s memorable, comeback victory at Lord’s, former batsman VVS Laxman feels that Virat Kohli’s side are going to comprehensively dismantle the England side in the remaining three Tests. After draw in the first Test in Nottingham, India have taken a 1-0 lead in London with a thunderous 151-run win where they bowled England out inside 52 overs.

There is more than a week’s time for the hosts to regroup before the third Test, at Headingley, however, VVS Laxman opined that England would struggle to even be competitive in the series.

He asserted that only their skipper, Joe Root, had put up a fight in the batting department so far – and has received some support from Jonny Bairstow – otherwise, other batters have been like a cat on a hot tin roof against the Indian pacers.

In his column for Times Of India, VVS Laxman wrote, “As brilliantly as Joe Root played in the first innings, he is practically waging a lone battle. Apart from Jonny Bairstow, no one inspires any hope, and I fear it could be a long three Tests ahead for the home side. From here on, I’d regard anything less than a comprehensive series win for India as a shock result.”

Pujara and Rahane hinted at a return to their best rhythm: VVS Laxman

The 46-year-old was happy to see the duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane bail India out from a difficult situation on Day 4, while also once again asserting their importance in the middle-order.
Both the right-handers have been out of form and under heavy scrutiny of late. Pujara with a score of 45 and Rahane with 61 did themselves good and to the team as well.

“When the occasion so demanded in the second innings, the seasoned duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane hinted at a return to their best rhythm, which will further exacerbate England’s worries,” Laxman concluded.
