Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will try to get back their core players, including opener Faf du Plessis, in the mega auction, says CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan.
CSK on Tuesday announced their retentions ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction: Ravindra Jadeja (16 cr), MS Dhoni (12 cr), Ruturaj Gaikwad (8 cr), Moeen Ali (6 cr). All-rounder Moeen Ali, 34, was preferred over the 37-year-old Faf du Plessis, who was the second-highest run-scorer in the 2021 season and Man of the Match in the final.
Other than Faf du Plessis, other long-time CSK servants such as Dwayne Bravo and Suresh Raina were also released. Kasi Viswanathan is hoping to get some of them back.
“We look forward to getting them back. For example, Faf has been a team man who has taken us to the finals of two important seasons. It will be our endeavor to go and try for him. But it’s not in our hands,” Viswanathan said in a video posted by the Chennai Super Kings.
“We wish them all the very best wherever they are. We look forward to having a very good 2022.”
Dhoni gets the best out of the team every time he plays: CSK CEO
Viswanathan was effusive in praise for captain MS Dhoni, who led CSK to their fourth title earlier this year.
Dhoni has been retained at the second position after he had confirmed that he will not retire without playing another game back in Chennai. Viswanathan stressed the significance of Dhoni as the leader.
“Thala has been the mainstay of CSK. He has been a captain who has delivered for us. He gets the best out of the team every time he plays. As far as we are concerned, Thala plays a major role because he controls the team, and the team is benefitted by his experience. Nobody can doubt his skills as a captain,” the CSK CEO added.
Viswanathan also is hoping to have a full-capacity crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium next season. The 2022 edition is reported to start on April 2.
