James Anderson had a horrible, perhaps terrifying, time while facing a barrage of bouncers from Jasprit Bumrah towards the end of Day 3 at Lord’s.

The 126th over of England’s innings was a 10-ball over because the Bumrah bowled four no balls in it. The first ball of the over had hit James Anderson on the helmet and a mandatory concussion test was done, which he passed. However, there was no respite for England’s number 11 as Bumrah unleashed one short ball after another.

James Anderson was defending for his life there as Bumrah, who endured a wicketless day despite bowling really well, was steaming in and attacking the upper part of the batter’s body; it was a ploy for him to either bounce out James Anderson or soften him up or a yorker, which he missed on a couple of occasions.

Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn reacted in a hilarious way about this battle. He reckoned that James Anderson will desperately want the ball when Bumrah comes out to bat in India’s second innings.

“Jimmy gana be begging for the ball when Jasprit comes in to bat…,” Steyn tweeted.

To be able to perform the way Joe Root has is nothing more than superhuman: James Anderson

Joe Root put up another batting masterclass display at Lord’s. He remained unbeaten on 180

“Absolutely, Joe has been amazing. Throughout his career, and in this last 12 months in particular with everything that we’ve been through with the pandemic and pressure on this team, to be able to captain the side, and perform the way he has is nothing more than superhuman,” said Anderson at the end of day’s play.

“I couldn’t speak highly enough of him, and every time he goes out, he just shows the class and today was exactly that. It was just his class from ball one. He played quite comfortably,” he added.
