England pacer James Anderson continued to bowl after injuring his knee on Day 1 of the fourth Test between England and India at The Oval. He started bleeding after falling down in his bowling follow-through.

The penultimate Test got underway on a cloudy morning at The Oval. England opted to bowl first which seemed like a no-brainer given the conditions at hand. The English bowlers were all over the visitors like a rash in no time.

In the post-lunch session, Anderson was brought in to bowl with a small partnership building. He wasn’t at his usual best, probably because his rhythm was off after tripping and falling down a couple of times.

The result was a bloody knee, sustained from cutting himself on the pitch. Several glimpses were caught of Anderson in pain and the area around his knee was soaked in blood. Unperturbed, Anderson continued to bowl without undergoing treatment.

After a thumping victory at Headingley, the English bowlers continued to have the wood over the Indian batsmen. After a quick start from the openers, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, Chris Woakes nipped out the latter with a beautiful delivery.

The runs completely dried immediately, and Rahul followed soon under the pressure with India at 28/2. Skipper Virat Kohli joined Cheteshwar Pujara at the crease to rescue the team from another collapse.

It wasn’t successful, however, as Pujara edged Anderson before lunch. A surprise promotion for Ravindra Jadeja didn’t pan out for the visitors, as he was dismissed early in the second session, with India struggling at 69/4.
