Jason Holder Praises Fawad Alam's Captivating Century, Says He Was Very Patient Throughout

West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has said that Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam‘s century in the second Test at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Alam returned after retiring hurt on the first day and helped himself to his fifth career century in Tests.

The play was washed out on Day 2 due to intermittent showers. Day 3, however, saw a lot of riveting cricketing action, with both sides trading blows. Alam stood tall amidst the ruckus and brought up his fifty century, each of which has come in a different country.

While showering praise on the left-hander, Jason Holder pointed out that he was extremely patient on a tricky wicket that was offering quite a bit of help to the bowlers.

“Fawad obviously showed us how to apply ourselves. He was very, very patient. In these kinds of situations, trying to see off a day becomes quite tricky for batters, and the new ball will definitely count in these kinds of conditions,” Holder mentioned after the day’s play.

The third day’s play started off with a bit of controversy. There was a lot of dampness around the bowling crease and in the run-up area so the umpires decided to call-off play and take an early lunch. Luckily the sun was out so there was a bit of relief for the players.

If Day 4 sees similar weather, the track might get easier to bat on, as per Holder. He also stressed the fact that seeing out the new ball will be the primary aim for the West Indies batsmen.

“I think it’s a new ball wicket. If you can get past the new ball with little damage, it’s a very good track to bat on. I expect tomorrow when the sun comes out and everything is pretty much even, the pitch should level off and settle down,” the all-rounder pointed out.

Entering the fourth day’s play, West Indies is in a pickle having lost three wickets in their pursuit of Pakistan’s total of 302/9d.
