Jay Shah's Tenure As Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Extended Till AGM 2024

In the latest annual meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) the board members unanimously decided to extend Jay Shah’s tenure for one more year. In the same meeting, the dates for the next Asia Cup was also revealed. The tournament will be played from August 27 to September 11 in Sri Lanka. 

The official Twitter handle of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) sent out a tweet confirming the extension of Jay Shah’s tenure for another year. He will hold onto the post till AGM 2024. 

The ACC Members unanimously decided that the tenure of Mr. @JayShah as ACC President and that of the Executive Board along with its Committees will continue until the 2024 AGM,” ACC tweeted.

Shah took over the reign from BCB President Nazmul Hassan in January 2021 making him the youngest administrator to be re-appointed as ACC president. While addressing the meeting he spoke about the key areas that he wants to focus on in his remaining tenure.

 “We remain committed towards ensuring the all-round development of cricket in the region, especially carrying forward the pioneering work in women’s cricket and the multiple grassroot tournaments the ACC conducts in the region around the year,” Shah said.

“The pandemic hopefully is behind us and I am keen that we adapt, innovate and help the ACC grow from strength to strength from hereon,” he further added.

Meanwhile, The Asia Cup 2022 will be the 15th edition of the tournament which was first played in 1984. India have won the Asia Cup seven times followed by Sri Lanka (5 times) and Pakistan (2 times). The Asia Cup 2022 will be a 20-over tournament and the qualifiers of the tournament will begin from August 20, 2022.

“The Asia Cup 2022 (T20 Format) will be held in Sri Lanka from 27 August – 11 September later this year. The Qualifiers for the same will be played 20 August 2022 onwards,” ACC tweeted.
