Australian head coach Justin Langer has heaped high praise on Alex Carey for the manner in which the southpaw led the national team during the ODI series against the West Indies.

With regular skipper Aaron Finch getting ruled out of the ODI series due to a knee injury he sustained while fielding in the 5th T20I, Alex Carey was appointed as a stand-in skipper for the 50-over leg of the Caribbean trip.

And, Carey fared reasonably well as he led Australia to a convincing 2-1 series win.

While Australia won the first ODI by a whopping margin of 133 runs, they went down fighting in the second game as West Indies chased down 187.

The visitors came back brilliantly in the decider as they knocked over the home side for 152 to romp home to a six-wicket win.

Carey scored 67 runs in the first game and chipped in with a handy 35 in the decider.

But, what stood out for Justin Langer is the calmness that captain Carey displayed during the series.

“I thought Alex Carey’s captaincy was outstanding,” Justin Langer said, according to The Australian.

“One of the hallmarks of Alex Carey, and he talks about it personally and we are talking about it as a team now as one of our values or what we are looking to achieve as a playing group, is calmness. He is so calm and you can see it in his face when he bats.” added Langer.

Langer further added that Alex Carey ticks all the boxes as captain and he was extremely easy to work with.

“He is easy to work with as a captain,” said Langer. “He’ll tick every box, he’ll make sure all his due diligence is done, he will know how his team mates are travelling, so he was great to work with,” said Langer.

“I loved his calmness, I loved his composure, I loved what he does on and off the field, he did a really, really good job, he is very impressive in that role.” He added.
