Kamran Akmal Retires From All Forms Of Cricket

On Tuesday, February 7, the 41-year-old Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Kamran Akmal was recently named as a member of the Pakistan Men’s National Selection Committee alongside Mohammad Sami and Yasir Hameed. The committee is chaired by Haroon Rasheed.

The 41-year-old was named chair of the PCB’s Junior Selection Committee as well as the chair of an eight-member selection committee, which will conduct U13, U16 and U19 trials for the selection of regional and district teams.

Speaking at a press conference, Kamran Akmal said that he will no longer play cricket due to his new position in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“Obviously, I will not be playing cricket anymore due to new roles in PCB,” said Kamran Akmal.

“I will be playing small leagues but that too depends on my responsibilities in a new role given to me by PCB,” he added

The wicketkeeper-batter represented Pakistan in 268 international games across all three formats, scoring 6871 runs, with 11 tons and 27 fifties. Also, Kamran, who is the second-highest run-getter in the history of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), refused to blame anyone for being sidelined from cricket. Notably, he was not picked in the PSL 8 draft.

Previously, Umar Akmal said that his brother Kamran Akmal is a very kind person and was hopeful of his successful tenure as a selector.

“Kamran has always been very kind to not only me but all the cricketers. Everybody learns from him,” speaking to Geosuper.tv he said.

“I am sure he will give fair chances to players. I wish him the best of luck,” he added.

Also, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi lauded Kamran Akmal, labelling him as an honest and hard-working person. He backed the decision of his appointment as a selector at the junior level.

“Kamran is honest and hard-working. I think he is a good choice to select players at the junior level. He is bold and will not take any pressure in the selection of players,” he said.
