New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has dethroned Steve Smith to become the number 1 batsman in the ICC Test Rankings. Williamson achieved this feat after New Zealand beat Pakistan in the first Test of the two-match series on Wednesday. Kane Williamson grabbed the Man of the Match award for his scintillating century in the first innings.
The last month or so has been exceptional for the Kiwi skipper. In this month he became the number 2 batsman in the ICC Test Rankings after the conclusion of the first Test match between West Indies and New Zealand. Then, he became a father as his wife gave birth to their first child. Now, on the last day of 2020, he has become the number one Test batsman.
Kane Williamson Becomes The Number 1 Batsman In The Freshly Released ICC Test Rankings
Williamson became the number one batsman in the freshly released ICC Test Rankings on Thursday. Indian skipper Virat Kohli has maintained his second spot even after missing out in the Boxing Day Test. Australian batsman Steve Smith, who was the former number one has now shifted to the third position after poor performances in Adelaide and Melbourne.
Marnus Labuschagne and Babar Azam have maintained their fourth and fifth spots respectively. Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane has taken a major leapfrog and he has gained five spots to enter the top 10. He is now on the 6th spot after his scintillating ton in Melbourne. Australian opener David Warner has fallen down a spot and has gone down at the 7th position.
English all-rounder Ben Stokes has also gone down a spot and is on the 8th position in the ICC Test Rankings. Joe Root maintains his spot at the 9th position in the freshly-released rankings. Cheteshwar Pujara has lost a couple of spots as he is now the last batsman in the top 10 rankings.
Ajinkya Rahanje was phenomenal with the bat in the second Test and thus he is the only batsman to have witnessed a sharp rise. Kane Williamson has also seen the uprise due to his constant performance with the bat.
