The controversy involving Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, and a Lahore-based woman, Hamiza Mukhtar takes fire as a session court in Lahore had ordered the police to file a case against Babar. In November last year, Hamiza had alleged that Babar had sexually exploited her after making false promises of marriage. The woman also claims that Babar Azam has forced her to undergo an abortion.
According to the Press Trust of India, the accuser had disclosed her medical documents to the court as evidence to back her accusations. Noman Muhammad Naeem, judge of the additional sessions court, has directed the SHO of Naseerabad police station to immediately file an FIR against the Pakistani skipper.
The judge feels that the allegations were disturbing requiring a full investigation. The FIR has been lodged at the Naseerabad police station.
Earlier, Babar and his family were ordered by another judge, Abid Raza, to not harass Hamiza, after the latter said she was getting threat calls to withdraw the case. The woman further revealed that she had tried to lodge an FIR against Babar Azam earlier, but he coerced her into withdrawing the complaint on marriage re-assurance.
Babar Azam to make a return against South Africa; missed all matches against New Zealand
In the upcoming home series against South Africa, Babar Azam will make a return to the Pakistan side after missing out on 3 T20Is and 2 Tests in New Zealand owing to a thumb injury he sustained in a net session in Auckland.
Ahead of the tour, Babar Azam replaced Azhar Ali as the Test captain, and now is Pakistan’s all-format leader; he was already given the limited-overs captaincy from Sarfaraz Ahmed, under whom the Men in Green failed to qualify for the semifinals of the 2019 World Cup.
Before getting injured, the 26-year-old Babar Azam was in sublime form with the bat. He is currently in the top 10 batsmen in ICC rankings in all three formats.
Pakistan will host Quinton de Kock’s side for 2 Test matches starting 26th January in Karachi, followed by Rawalpindi. The Test series will follow a 3-match T20I series; all matches to be played in Lahore.
