With 20.55 crores left over, Mumbai Indians (MI) entered the IPL 2023 auction hoping to fill nine open spots. The five-time IPL champions, who lost as many as 10 games and won four last season, placed ninth in the IPL 2022 points standings. With the same number of wins and defeats as MI, CSK placed ninth. Mumbai is grouped with KKR, DC, LSG, and RR in Group A.

On December 23 in Kochi, there was an auction for the IPL 2023. 991 players in total were initially named for the auction. There were 277 foreign players and 714 Indian players together. At a base fee of 2 crores, 21 players have signed up, all of whom are international athletes.

The BCCI then reduced the final player list from 991 to 405 individuals. Ten teams initially shortlisted 369 athletes, but 36 additional players were later requested and were included in the final list. The 405 participants are divided among 273 Indians and 132 foreign players, of which 4 are from partner countries. In addition, a total of 119 players with caps, 282 players without caps, and 4 players from associate nations will participate in the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) would be without Kieron Pollard’s services as he declared his retirement from the IPL prior to the 2023 season. Ahead of a new season, he will join the team as the batting coach. The franchise’s nucleus of Indian players includes Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. Jofra Archer, who missed IPL 2023 owing to an extended elbow injury, will be eligible for Mumbai starting in IPL 2023. The main international players are Tim David, Dewald Brevis, and Tristan Stubbs.
