Michael Vaughan Terms Ravindra Jadeja’s Exclusion From BCCI’s Grade A+ Contract As A “Disgrace”, Says The All-Rounder Should Be On The Highest Pay Scale

Former England captain, Michael Vaughan is utterly disappointed that Ravindra Jadeja is not awarded the Grade A+ contract by the BCCI. Only three players, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are listed in the highest bracket which will earn them INR 7 Cr.

Ravindra Jadeja has been handed a Grade A contract, which has a retainer of INR 5 crore. His non-inclusion in the A+ category, which is for the players who play all three formats, comes as a surprise as he is a regular member of India’s all three sides. The all-rounder is in the top 10 ICC all-rounders rankings of Test and ODIs.

“Disgrace … he should be on a the biggest behind Virat …” tweeted Michael Vaughan expressing his disapproval.

The one reason which seems plausible for BCCI’s decision to exclude Ravindra Jadeja from the highest category is that the lack of game time he has had in the period of the contract. The contract is for the term from October 2020 to September 2021 and the left-hander has played little cricket in the past five months for India – he got injured during the Test series in Australia and missed all the matches at home against England.

Former chief selector, MSK Prasad, also believes that the Chennai Super Kings all-rounder deserved the A+ contract. Prasad, however, reckons that along with Ravindra Jadeja, keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will soon be in the A+ category as both will be key parts of the Indian team across formats going forward. Pant has also been placed in the A list after his heroics in Australia and versus England.

“Jadeja is a genuine A+ candidate. Those who play all formats and have good ICC rankings are included in the list. I cannot see any reason why he was not considered for A + Grade. I can see Pant in A+ soon. He is not regular now but it will be difficult to ignore him for the grade. Both Jadeja and Pant could be at the top bracket soon,” Prasad told Cricbuzz.
