Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has said that Mohammad Amir cannot put conditions to play for the national team and cannot demand the removal of coach Misbah Ul Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis.

Mohammad Amir had accused the current Pakistan team management of forcing him into retirement from international cricket at the age of 29. Amir had retired from Tests before that, despite returning to international cricket in 2016 after serving his five-year ban for his involvement in spot-fixing.

If Mohammad Amir Has Made His Decision To Retire, Then He Should Stick To It: Saeed Ajmal

Mohammad Amir was once considered to be a bright prospect when he debuted for the Pakistan team in 2009. He was part of the Men in Green’s 2009 World T20 triumph and was touted as the next Wasim Akram by many thanks to his ability to swing the ball both ways at a high pace.

However, his career came to a screeching halt as he was banned and jailed for his involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal. However, Pakistan welcomed him back after his ban ended, and Amir played a huge role in Pakistan winning the 2017 Champions Trophy, as he removed the top three batsmen of India in the final.

Meanwhile, his former teammate Saeed Ajmal has said that Amir shouldn’t be demanding the axing of the Pakistan team coaches as a condition of his return to international cricket and that if he had decided to retire, should stick to the decision.

“From what he is saying, it looks like he was dealt unfairly. But I don’t know what happened between him and team management behind the scenes. He is saying that he will only play for Pakistan after Misbah and Waqar leave their post as head coach and bowling coach. It is not right for a player to ask for the removal of a coach. Amir should focus on his performance and cement his place before making such demands,” Ajmal told Cricket Pakistan.

“Amir had given his retirement out of desperation but now he is thinking of coming back. If he has made his decision to retire, then he should stick to it,” he said.

Amir represented Pakistan in 36 Tests and took 119 wickets at an average of 30.47. He also featured in 61 ODIs and claimed 81 wickets at an average of 29.62. He has 59 wickets in 50 T20Is for Pakistan as well.
