Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was signed up by Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday (December 19) during the IPL auction 2024. After going unsold in the first round, he was sold at his base price of Rs 2 crores in the accelerated auction.

A quality spinner especially in T20s, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has surprisingly not played in the IPL since 2021. He became an overnight sensation in 2018 when he received a Rs 4 crore IPL deal from Punjab Kings as a 17-year-old. In his maiden IPL season, he picked up 14 wickets in 11 games while maintaining an economy rate of less than 7.

The Afghan spinner impressed one and all with his ability to bowl at any stage of the game including the powerplay. However, his IPL career has not unfolded in a manner many were anticipating. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, he played a total of 8 games and picked up 5 wickets. He went unsold in the 2022 auction and missed the last two seasons of the competition.
