Mumbai Indians Interested To Bid For A Team in WIPL: Reports

Women’s IPL, WIPL, is set to witness its debut edition this year. BCCI has invited bids for the WIPL teams. Some reports suggest that Mumbai Indians are interested to form a team in WIPL.
Mumbai Indians franchise is owned by Ambanis, who are among the wealthiest corporates in India. Ambani has developed Mumbai Indians as a big brand. They also own teams in other leagues- MI Cape Town in SA20 League and MI Emirates in ILT20.

Mumbai Indians To Form A Team In WIPL: Reports
Some reports from Cricbuzz have claimed that Mumbai Indians will also form a team in WIPL. The technical bidding for WIPL teams will take place on Wednesday. BCCI recently revealed their invitation to tender (IIT) which costs Rs. 1000 crores. Hence, many corporates are attracted to forming a team in WIPL including Ambanis.

Other than Mumbai Indians, franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals are also interested to form teams in WIPL. Notably, Adani Group bid for Gujarat Franchise in IPL 2022 but they could not grab a deal. Hence, they might also be one of the bidders in WIPL.

Recently, Viacom 18 won the broadcasting right for the tournament. The group bagged the deal with a bid of Rs. 190.20 crores per season. The WIPL will consist of 5 teams. The tournament is expected to take place in March this year. 22 matches will be played among 5 teams during the tournament.
