National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru will be the final authority to monitor an injured player’s rehabilitation process before he is fit to play.

After a meeting between many prominent personalities, a new guideline was mentioned where the National Cricket Academy will be the apex body to decide on the fitness of players. The meeting included the likes of BCCI secretary Jay Shah, the National Cricket Academy Head of Cricket Rahul Dravid, Indian skipper Virat Kohli, and head coach Ravi Shastri.

“The players have been told that whenever they get injured, they need to inform the NCA. Once their injury has healed, the rehabilitation part will be taken care of by their physios in Bengaluru. It will also help prepare a database that will help the BCCI in the future,” a BCCI official said, as reported by The Indian Express.

In December 2019, the National Cricket Academy had refused to conduct a fitness test for pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah who was coming from a back injury. The National Cricket Academy, then, said  Bumrah was consulting his own specialists in the United Kingdom on the way to recovery and was not at the NCA center for his rehabilitation.

Shreyas Iyer cleared fit by NCA

On August 11, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer got clearance from the national academy on his fitness and was also issued a certificate for the same. Iyer had dislocated his shoulder while fielding during an ODI match between India and England in March and the Mumbai player had undergone shoulder surgery in April.

Opening batsman Shubman Gill, who was ruled out ahead of the England Test series after suffering a stress fracture in the shin, is currently recuperating at NCA.
