The hosts New Zealand claimed a dominant victory in the first ODI of this series which was also their first ODI match under the 2020-23 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. Another victory in this series will not only add 10 more points in this Super League but also secure their series victory.

Ross Taylor has also been ruled out due to not fully recovering from the left-hamstring tear issue. In the opening game of this series, left-arm pacer Trent Boult (4/27) got four wickets as he won the Player of the Match award while James Neesham (2/27) and Mitchell Santner (2/23) both bagged two wickets each.

After suffering a thrashing defeat in the ODI series opener, Bangladesh now must have to win both the remaining games to snatch away this series from the hosts.

Bangladesh batsmen totally failed to handle the New Zealand condition in the first ODI. Only Mushfiqur Rahim (23) and Mahmudullah (27) managed to reach the 20-run mark in that innings. Among their bowlers, only Taskin Ahmed (1/23) and Hasan Mahmud (1/49) got one wicket each.

Surely, Bangladesh need to improve their performance very quickly to manage their first-ever international win against the hosts New Zealand.
