Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond has reckoned that the Kiwi pacers will blow India away, should Kane Williamson wins the toss and bowl first in the final of the ICC World Test Championship final.

India and New Zealand are all set to lock horns with each other in the summit clash of the inaugural World Test Championship, and with showers predicted in Southampton on all five days, the toss could be a crucial factor.

”…if New Zealand win the toss and bowl as well as they have. I think they’ll bowl out India cheaply and that ain’t a bad thing,” Shane Bond said in a virtual press conference arranged by the official broadcaster of the game, Star Sports.

The former BlackCaps pacer, however, outlined the risk involved with winning the toss and bowling first for the BlackCaps.

The risk being that if New Zealand fails to knock over India cheaply in the first innings, then they will have to contend with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on the 4th and 5th day.

“The risk is if they (NZ) don’t bowl them out, India have got two world class spinners and are right in the game,” he said. “So, it’s the toss that is going to be huge. And that first innings is going to be huge,” Shane Bond pointed out.

While Bond reckoned that New Zealand will go with as many as 5 pacers and will look to put the Indians in, should they win the toss, he has backed his country to beat Virat Kohli’s men in the final.

Bond said that the fact that the Kiwis has played two Tests in England leading into the final will have a massive impact on the game.

“I think New Zealand will play five seamers, and I think they’ll win the toss and they’ll bowl first,” he added. “I think New Zealand are going to win. Game practices going to have a massive impact. I think India have got a balanced bowling attack. I think they’ll play three seamers and two spinners,” Bond signed off.
