The newly-constituted Najam Sethi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee has given a stern message to the centrally contracted Pakistan players, stating that they need to abide by their contractual clauses and no breach will be tolerated in this regard, according to a PTI report.

Ramiz Raja, who was appointed as the 36th chairman of the PCB on September 13, 2021, was sacked as the PCB chairman on December 21, 2022, following Pakistan’s humiliating defeat in the three-match Test series against England National Cricket Team on home soil.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sherif, who is also the patron of the board, cleared the appointment of Najam Sethi and he was handed the role of PCB chairman.

A new 14-member committee headed by Najam Sethi was formed. The committee includes former cricketers Haroon Rashid, Shahid Afridi, Shafqat Rana and Sana Mir.

A source has revealed that the pace-bowling trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Shahnawaz Dahani were especially reminded that it is not their job to post a tweet about who should be the skipper of the Pakistan National Cricket Team.

Notably, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf had tweeted in favour of captain Babar Azam following Pakistan’s 0-3 Test series loss against England on home soil. They stated that no one should think about removing Babar from captaincy. However, the left-arm seamer Shaheen deleted his tweet after the newly-constituted cricket management committee told players that their job was to focus on cricket and perform well for the country.

“Sethi has given out a clear message that no more shenanigans on social media or breaches of central contracts will be tolerated from any player,” the source said, as quoted by PTI.

The former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja had allowed the players to interact a lot on social media during his tenure, but now things have changed as the players have been told that they should not make any remarks on matters, which are purely the domain of the PCB.

On Sunday, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, while speaking at a press conference, said that they are not concerned about the changes in PCB and that their main focus is to defeat New Zealand in the upcoming series.
