Dean Jones’ wife Jane has added a new twist to the tragic death of the former Australia batsman. Earlier this year in September, Dean Jones passed away while he was in a Mumbai hotel. He was 59. The former cricketer was in India to ply his trade as a cricket analyst for this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) which was held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At that time, reports suggested that he died of heart attack. However, Jane has confirmed that heart attack was not the reason behind Dean Jones’ death. She confirmed that the cricket legend collapsed and died of a stroke in his Mumbai hotel. Fellow commentator and ex-Australian fast bowler Brett Lee was also quarantining with Dean Jones and performed CPR on his mate, but was tragically unable to save him.

“It is actually under a coroner’s inquiry at the moment, not that they think there is anything other than what they have found, but just that he was a bit young to have the stroke the way it happened,” Jane told The Age.

According to a report in The Herald Sun, both the Australian and Indian coroners have agreed Jones died from a catastrophic stroke. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia paid a touching tribute to Dean Jones on day one of the ongoing Boxing Day Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Jones played 52 Tests and 164 ODIs for Australia. He scored 3631 runs in red-ball cricket at an average of 46.55 with 11 hundred and 14 half-centuries. In the 50-over format, he amassed 6068 runs at 44.61 with 7 hundreds and 46 fifties.
