Nasser Hussain believes Liam Livingstone fits well with England head coach Brendon McCullum’s ‘Bazball’ mindset as he prepares to make his Test debut.

England will play a Test series on Pakistani soil for the first time in 17 years when the first of three matches begin on Thursday in Rawalpindi. Ben Duckett has been called up to the squad alongside Stokes, Joe Root, Zak Crawley, Harry Brook, Ben Foakes, and Ollie Pope, while white-ball regular Liam Livingstone is set to make his Test debut.

Hussain feels that Test cricket could initially be fun for Livingstone if he gets off to a good start, but advised him to be mentally tougher as the longer format is a tough test for many cricketers.

“Liam Livingstone is a perfect fit for England’s ‘Bazball’ mentality, and I believe he is a huge asset to Ben Stokes. The fact that Livingstone hasn’t played a red-ball match since the summer of 2021 is unimportant. Livingstone, on the other hand, does not overcomplicate things. McCullum will want him to play’see ball, hit ball’ cricket, which he excels at”  Nasser Hussain remarked on sky sports.

“Because otherwise, as we know, Test cricket becomes tough. “Mentally, you better make sure you’re doing this for the right reasons because this format will test you more than any other. I can guarantee you that” Nasser Hussain Added.

“Stokes and McCullum both know there will be times to go hard”: Nasser Hussain

Nasser Hussain cautioned that the name “Bazball” refers to more than just playing aggressively and relied on Stokes to think quickly under pressure.

“Bazball is about more than just attacking. Stokes and McCullum are both aware that there will be times to go hard and times to recognize when the tempo is shifting. You could bring in an extra slide if it is reversing. Bring in another close fielder if it’s spinning for Jack Leach. Stokes, I am confident, will be aware of the details” Nasser Hussain said.

England will be playing a Test series on Pakistani soil after a gap of 17 years when the first of three Tests starts at Rawalpindi on Thursday.
