On Tuesday, August 29, a day before the commencement of the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan National Cricket Team announced their playing XI for the tournament opening clash.

The Men In Green under the leadership of Babar Azam will take on Rohit Paudel-led Nepal National Cricket Team on Wednesday, August 30 at the Multan Cricket Stadium. They will next face off against India National Cricket Team on Saturday, September 2 in Pallekele.

Meanwhile, Pakistan have decided to unveil their playing XI a day before the match against Nepal and a predictable team has been named. The Men In Green side have Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman as openers while Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, and Iftikhar Ahmed are the next four batters in the line-up.

Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz are the two spin-bowling all-rounders in the playing XI while the pace-bowling unit of the side consists of dangerous seamers – Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.

Speaking ahead of the match, Babar Azam has made it very clear that they are not taking Nepal lightly.

“We are focused on tomorrow’s game against Nepal. They have a good bunch of players, so we are not taking them lightly and we will try to play our best cricket,” Babar said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“We will plan against India when the time comes,” Babar added.

Babar Azam, who recently led Pakistan to the No.1 position in the ICC ODI Team Rankings, further said that they want to win both the Asia Cup and the World Cup.

“When I got the responsibility of captaincy, my aim was to change the mindset of the team and I have been successful in doing that,” Babar said.

“We want to win the Asia Cup and the World Cup. We have some competitive and exciting next few months lined up and we are eager to do well for our country,” he added.
