According to Kamran Akmal, spectators at the just-finished first Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand at Karachi’s National Stadium seemed disinterested.

Talking on his YouTube channel, Akmal predicted that if the Pakistani team doesn’t alter their strategy, spectators would stop being interested in red-ball cricket.

We Will Have To Play Fearlessly: Kamran Akmal

Akmal asked Babar Azam and company to play a little more boldly.

“Fans were bored during this Test match. If Pakistan continue to do the same, it will be tough to bring fans to the stadium for red-ball matches. It is imperative that Pakistan change their approach to keep Test cricket alive in the country. We will have to play fearlessly.”

Pakistan and New Zealand’s first game of the series finished in a tie. On Day 5, the Blackcaps were pursuing a target of 138 and threatened to overtake the hosts by scoring 61 runs for the loss of one wicket in 7.3 overs (15 overs). However, because of the poor lighting, the game had to be stopped.

New Zealand Would Have Chased The Target If Not For The Bad Light: Kamran Akmal

Babar Azam, according to Kamran Akmal, made a mistake by declaring Pakistan’s innings when they were not in a condition to win the match.

The 40-year-old asserted that if the match hadn’t been paused, New Zealand would have prevailed. He insisted that the choice to declare was taken solely to win the supporters’ admiration.

Added Kamran Akmal:

“Were Pakistan thinking that New Zealand batters would come without their bats? I don’t understand why they declared at that stage, and it was totally uncalled for. By making such a decision, they feel that people will praise them for showing bravery. However, New Zealand would have chased the target if not for the bad light.”

At Karachi’s National Stadium, the second and final Test of their series would pit Pakistan under the direction of Babar Azam against New Zealand. The game is scheduled to begin on January 2, 2023, on Monday.
