Pakistan’s former batsman and current head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has tested positive for covid-19. He is currently in Kingston, Jamaica where the Pakistan side just concluded their tour.

Misbah was supposed to fly back to Pakistan’s capital, Lahore, along with the entire contingent. Their departure was scheduled later in the day, but it has now been confirmed that he won’t be leaving just yet. Reports have stated that he is asymptomatic so far.

As per normal covid protocol, Misbah will undergo a 10-day quarantine, likely to be a place in a different hotel in Jamaica. After completing the mandatory isolation period, he will head back to Pakistan on a separate flight.

The news comes after Pakistan beat West Indies in the second Test to draw the series 1-1. Misbah underwent a PCR test, which revealed that he had contracted the virus. The rest of the players and team management tested negative and will make their way back home.

Misbah-ul-Haq likely to remain head coach until T20 World Cup

Following their T20I series win against West Indies a couple of weeks ago, it was stated that Misbah will remain the head coach at least until the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. His position was under scrutiny but they have been put to rest for the time being.

Basically everyone was keen to see how Misbah managed the team in the T20 series in West Indies as calls grew for the PCB to review his position as head coach in white-ball formats.

The feeling developed that perhaps Misbah was not the right man or didn’t have the coaching experience to take Pakistan into the T20 World Cup. With the T20 series washed out in West Indies, clearly, there is no space or logical reason to reshuffle the team management now before the World Cup,” a source was quoted as saying.

Pakistan ends a successful tour of the West Indies, having secured the 4-match T20I series 1-0 and drawing the Test series 1-1.
